Winter sport athletes march on

A number of NSWIS winter sport athletes have continued their march to the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games, with a series of strong results across the globe.

Britteny Cox highlighted the results following a moguls world cup double header in Deer Valley, USA, where she placed 11th in the first event, and sixth in the second event. Cox jumped from 12th in the world rankings following the first event to fifth overall after her strong showing in the second event.

Several more NSWIS athletes competed in Deer Valley, including Taylah-Paige O’Neill (28th and 19th), Nicole Parks (34th and 11th), Matt Graham (20th and eighth), Brodie Summers (49th and 47th), James Matheson (61st and 38th), and Sam Hall (27th).

Elsewhere, NSWIS snowboard cross athletes Jarryd Hughes and Torah Bright were two of four NSWIS athletes in action at the world cup event in Andorra.

Hughes posted an 11th place finish in the men’s event, with fellow NSWIS athlete Cam Bolton in 18th and Daniel Morrissy in 40th, while Torah Bright finished 13th in the women’s event. Belle Brockhoff qualified for the final but did not start, finishing 24th overall.

The skeleton and bobsleigh world cup continued in St Moritz, Switzerland, with John Farrow finishing 22nd in the men’s skeleton, and Jana Pittman taking 12th in the women’s bobsleight, just 1.07 seconds behind the eventual winners.
