Something Borrows, Something New in Rio!

NSWIS canoe slalom star Ian Borrows has booked himself a spot in the semi-finals following an impressive Olympic debut in Rio.

12 months after missing selection in Australia’s world championships team. Borrows made up for lost time with a stellar performance through his two heat runs.

Borrows was near flawless and heads into the semis ranked fifth overall.

Fellow NSWIS athlete Lucien Delfour has missed the semi-finals in the men’s kayak K1 event after incurring a 50 second penalty at Gate 20 in his second run.

His best time, recorded in his first run, finished just outside the top 15 required to progress to the semis.

NSWIS provided Australia’s two representatives in an eventful women’s cycling road race.

Amanda Spratt finished 15^th, just over four minutes behind Dutch gold medallist Anna van der Breggen. Rachel Neylan was slightly further back in 22^nd.

Australia is well in medal contention in the team’s eventing at the equestrian centre, featuring NSWIS riders Shane Rose and Stuart Tinney,

Rose and his horse CP Qualified helped boost their standing with a solid performance in the dressage. and sits 13^th overall in the individual rankings.

There was heartbreak for NSWIS judoka Nathan Katz, who was eliminated from the 66kg division in one of the closest encounters of these Olympics so far.

Just one point separated Katz and Morrocco’s Imad Bassou in a bout which went down to the final seconds.
