Ankudinoff Back on the Bike After Crash

NSWIS track cyclist Ashlee Ankudinoff has trained strongly at the Velodrome in Rio, a day after a crash that threatened to derail her Olympics.

Ankudinoff was involved in a nasty pile-up during practice yesterday after a clip of wheels during a race-pace effort at 60km/hour.

It left four members of Australia’s women’s endurance team injured. Ankudinoff escaping with a few bruises and grazes from the fall and able to train less than 24 hours later.

The quartet of Ankudinoff, Georgia Baker, Amy Cure and Annette Edmondson completed a smooth 16-lap, four-kilometre effort during Tuesday morning’s official team training session.

Melissa Hoskins missed the session but has been cleared of major injury after undergoing hospital tests on Monday evening.

“They are rock solid and I have said that from day one. To see what they have done this morning is incredible turn around,” Women’s Track Endurance Head Coach Gary Sutton told the AOC.

“You could see that they have bandages all over them, they have showed a lot of character.”

Ankudinoff will compete in the Team Pursuit in Rio, four years after suffering the pain of being the final rider to be cut from the squad in London.

She was part of the team pursuit quartet alongside Hoskins, Edmondson and Cure which broke the world record in winning gold at last year’s world championships.
